Boeing workers go on strike
Posted: Wed, Nov 2, 2005, 7:24 AM ET (1224 GMT)
Delta 4 booster on pad awaiting launch (Boeing) Over 1,000 Boeing employees who work on the company's Delta launch vehicle program went on strike Wednesday, delaying several upcoming launches. The workers, members of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, started their strike overnight when last-minute negotiations between the union and the company failed to work out a deal on a new contract. The workers, located in Alabama, California, and Florida, work primarily on Boeing's Delta 2 and Delta 4 launch vehicles. The threat of a strike had already delayed a Delta 2 launch of two earth sciences satellites for NASA, and will likely delay upcoming Delta 4 launches of a weather satellite and classified payload.
