NASA NASA's Johnson Space Center survived Hurricane Rita with only minor damage, and plans to reopen to employees on Tuesday, the agency announced Sunday. The Houston center suffered only minor damage to buildings and grounds, such as trees toppled, with no injuries reported; the center also has water and power. the city was spared the worst of the hurricane as the storm veered east in the final days before landfall, weakening somewhat. JSC staff are on administrative leave until Tuesday to give them time to return home. The Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans, which sustained some damage last month from Hurricane Katrina, made it through this storm with no additional damage. Before this latest storm NASA officials said they hoped to resume work at Michoud by early October, housing some workers on a cruise ship docked by the plant.
