Posted: Tue, Dec 21, 2004, 7:37 PM ET (0037 GMT)
SS/Loral 1300 satellite illustration (SS/Loral) Satellite manufacturer Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has won a contract to provide a new spacecraft for satellite TV provider EchoStar, the company announced Monday. Loral will build the EchoStar 11 spacecraft, which will serve as a backup for EchoStar's existing fleet of television broadcasting satellites. The spacecraft will be based on SS/L's 1300-series of commercial communication satellites. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, other than that the satellite will be delivered by 2007. No launch arrangements for the spacecraft were announced. SS/L is part of Loral Space and Communications, a satellite operator that has been under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since mid-2003.
