Genesis capsule crash site (NASA) The Genesis capsule that crashed into the Utah desert earlier this month will soon be shipped to a Colorado factory for further investigation as scientists try to salvage samples within the spacecraft. The capsule will be sent to the Lockheed Martin factory near Denver where engineers and investigators will try to determine why the capsule's parachutes failed to deploy during its descent on September 8. The investigation is expected to take several months to complete. An initial batch of solar wind samples collected by the spacecraft was extracted from the capsule last week and shipped to scientists to begin their analysis. Scientists are optimistic that as much as 80 percent of the samples collected by the spacecraft during its three-year mission can be salvaged from the damaged capsule.
