XM, EchoStar reach subscriber milestones

Satellite television broadcaster EchoStar and satellite radio company XM Satellite Radio both announced Monday that they had reached major milestones in the number of subscribers for their services. EchoStar announced Monday that the number of subscribers to its Dish Network service now exceeds 10 million. EchoStar is the number two satellite TV company in the US, behind DirecTV. XM Satellite Radio announced Monday that it now has more than two million subscribers, having added half of those subscribers just in the last eight months. XM's goal is to have 20 million subscribers by 2010. XM is significantly ahead of its rival, Sirius, which started commercial service after XM.
