Posted: Tue, Apr 6, 2004, 9:13 PM ET (0113 GMT)
ISS illustration (NASA) A ventilation fan may be the source of a loud noise heard on the station last week as well as late last year, the Russian news agency Interfax reported. Last Friday ISS cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri reported hearing an odd metallic noise that he said sounded like a flapping piece metal. Kaleri and Michael Foale reported hearing a similar noise on the station in late November. On Monday Russian and American officials said the source of the noise, apparently within the Zvezda module, and it particular sound suggest to them that a ventilation fan may be the source of the noise. Space station managers are still considering inspecting the exterior of the Zvezda module in the general area of the noise during an EVA planned for July.
