ISS orbit boosted
Posted: Thu, Mar 4, 2004, 12:08 AM ET (0508 GMT)
ISS illustration (NASA) An engine burn by a Progress spacecraft late Tuesday boosted the orbit of the International Space Station. The Progress M1-11 cargo spacecraft, docked to the aft port of the Zvezda module of ISS, fired its engine Tuesday at 5:40 pm EST (2240 GMT) for nine minutes. The engine burn raised the orbit of the station by about four kilometers. The maneuver is designed to put the station into the "optimal position" for the arrival of a Soyuz spacecraft carrying the two-man Expedition 9 crew. Two more orbit-raising maneuvers are planned before the Soyuz arrives in late April.
