Posted: Tue, Mar 2, 2004, 2:42 PM ET (1942 GMT)
Proton launch (file photo) International Launch Services announces Tuesday that it has won a contract to launch a communications satellite for SES Americom subsidiary Worldsat. ILS announced that it will launch the Worldsat 3 satellite for SES on a Proton in the fourth quarter of 2005. Terms of the deal were not announced. Worldsat 3 is an Alcatel Spacebus 4000 spacecraft that was originally ordered as AMC-13, but was transferred to Worldsat and reconfigured to become Worldsat 3 earlier this year. AMC-13 was originally scheduled to launch on an Ariane 5 under a launch contract signed in 2002; the status of that contract is unclear.
