CSA head Garneau named university chancellor
Posted: Tue, Sep 16, 2003, 9:46 PM ET (0146 GMT)
Marc Garneau (CSA) Canadian Space Agency president Marc Garneau has been selected to be the next chancellor of a Canadian university, a largely ceremonial post that will not require him to leave the CSA. Carleton University in Ottawa announced Tuesday that Garneau would be the school's new chancellor, a position described as part figurehead and part goodwill ambassador. Garneau will fill the position on a part-time basis, remaining head of the CSA and staying in Montreal, where the CSA is headquartered. Garneau, a former astronaut and first Canadian in space, flew on three shuttle missions before taking over as head of the CSA in November 2001.
