White House considering space policy changes
Posted: Fri, Aug 29, 2003, 5:42 PM ET (2142 GMT)
In the wake of the final report into the Columbia accident, the Bush administration is reportedly considering major changes in space policy. The Washington Post reported Friday that the administration plans to start work next week on "a blueprint for interplanetary human flight over the next 20 or 30 years", and may make an announcement about an "ambitious new national vision for space travel" early next year, perhaps during the State of the Union address. The administration has been relatively silent on space issues, other than issuing a revised commercial remote sensing policy earlier this year; a similar review of space transportation policy was nearly completed at the time of the Columbia accident but has since been put on hold.
