SIRTF launch delayed

SIRTF illustration (NASA/JPL/Caltech) NASA announced Tuesday that the launch of the SIRTF space telescope would be delayed two delays because of a tracking ship problem. According to a NASA statement, a tracking ship required to receive data from the Delta 2 booster's second stage has not reached its position in the Indian Ocean because of poor weather. The launch has been rescheduled for Monday, August 25 at 1:35:39 am EDT (0535:39 GMT), but could be delayed again if the tracking ship continued to encounter delays en route to its support location.
