STS-107: shuttle breakup during reentry (CNN) There are numerous reports of debris apparently from the space shuttle Columbia falling in east central Texas, according to wire and broadcast dispatches. A police official in the east-central Texas city of Nacogdoches told MSNBC that they have received several reports of debris falling and causing minor damage to houses and buildings. The largest piece found to date in Nacogdoches is approximately 1.2 by 1.2 meters in size. There have been other reports of debris falling near Corsicana, south-southeast of Dallas, and in Plano, north of Dallas, although there is no confirmation that the debris is in fact related to the shuttle incident. Texas officials have established a command post in Palestine, Texas, about 100 km west of Nacogdoches and 150 km southeast of Dallas.
