Hubbard named new NASA Ames director

Scott Hubbard (NASA/Ames) NASA selected Scott Hubbard as the new director of the Ames Research Center in California on Thursday. Hubbard succeeds Henry McDonald, whon is stepping down from the post, effective immediately, to become the Distinguished Professor of Computational Engineering at the University of Tennessee. Hubbard was involved in the early planning of the Mars Pathfinder mission and later served as project manager for Lunar Prospector. In 2000 he was named the first NASA Mars Program Director at NASA Headquarters before returning to Ames to become deputy director of research. McDonald will serve as a special assistant to Hubbard during the transition period.
