An unmanned Progress cargo spacecraft successfully docked with the International Space Station early Saturday. The spacecraft, known as Progress 8 by NASA and Progress M-46 by the Russians, docked with the aft port of the station's Zvezda service module at 2:23 am EDT (0623 GMT) Saturday, three days after launch from Baikonur. The spacecraft is carrying 2.5 tons of cargo for the three-person Expedition Five crew, including food, equipment, and other supplies. An automated system was used to dock the Progress to ISS; Russian officials on Friday denied rumors in the Russian media that the automated system had failed and that the docking would have to be done manually.
