Blast-off for Skybolt 2, the British tilt at space tourism

In America, Elon Musk’s rockets supply the International Space Station and plans are well under way to send tourists to see the dark side of the moon. In Kazakhstan, space tourists have already made trips to the International Space Station. Now it is Britain’s turn.

In Northumberland yesterday we staked our own claim on the private space tourism market, with an unmanned rocket that soared to an altitude slightly lower than Ben Nevis then returned two thirds intact. The team behind Skybolt 2, one of the largest rockets ever to slip the surly bonds of Britain, said that they were “really pleased” with the launch, which they said was preparation for a test within two years of a rocket that could carry humans.
