Report: pop star to be next space tourist
Posted: Wed, Feb 20, 2002, 12:28 AM ET (0528 GMT)
ISS illustration (NASA) Lance Bass, a member of the pop group *NSYNC, will fly to the International Space Station this fall as the third commercial space tourist, according to a report published by SpaceRef Tuesday. The article, citing unnamed industry sources, said that Bass would fly on the Soyuz taxi flight scheduled for November 2002. Unlike the flights of tourists Dennis Tito and Mark Shuttleworth, which were brokered by space tourist firm Space Adventures, this flight is being arranged by MirCorp. A formal announcement could take place as soon as Wednesday, and the 23-year-old Bass may reveal his plans at an *NSYNC performance during the closing ceremonies of the Winter Olympics this weekend.
