STS-124: Kibo added to ISS (NASA) The crew of the space shuttle Discovery attached the Japanese lab module Kibo to the International Space Station on Tuesday at the end of the mission's first spacewalk. Astronauts Mike Fossum and Ron Garan spent six hours and 48 minutes outside the ISS on a spacewalk that ended at 7:10 pm EDT (2310 GMT) Tuesday. The astronauts first prepared the Kibo module for removal from the shuttle's cargo bay, while also moving an orbiter inspection boom from the station to the shuttle and also checking on a problematic solar array joint on the station. Near the end of the EVA the shuttle crew used the station's robotic arm to lift Kibo out of the cargo bay and successfully attach it to the Harmony node of the station.
