A small satellite company based in Huntington Beach announced will be moving its headquarters to Long Beach, bringing at least 50 new jobs to the city.

The new facilities will also provide some production capacity and a Mission Control Center, the company said in a statement. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of June.

According to the Long Beach Business Journal, the company is the third satellite launch company in the Douglas Park development near Carson Street and Lakewood Boulevard, joining Virgin Orbit and SpinLaunch.

Rocket Lab has expanded to design and manufacture satellites and provide “end-to-end mission service,” which the new Long Beach facilities will support. It will also provide the company’s first U.S-based Mission Control Center.

“As we enter our third year of orbital launches and expand into satellite manufacturing, we’re investing in major infrastructure and growing our team to provide frequent and reliable access to orbit for small satellites,” Peter Beck, the founder and CEO, said. “Long Beach is an ideal location for our team; it has a vibrant space community, it’s close to many of our suppliers and offers room to grow as our operations do.”

Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement that he is excited to see the company move to Long Beach.

“The expansion of this company in a city with an aerospace history as rich as ours will support new jobs and economic growth in the region,” Garcia said.

The roles open in the Long Beach facility include jobs in engineering, avionics production, Mission Management, Launch Services and more, according to Rocket Labs.
