Malacañang announced early this month the appointment of Dr. Joel Joseph Marciano Jr. as the first director general of the Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA).
President Duterte signed the appointment of Marciano on December 5, 2019.
Marciano is the acting director of Department of Science and Technology’s Advance Science and Technology Institute (DOST-Asti) and program leader of Stamina4Space before he was appointed as PhilSA head.
Duterte on August 8, 2019, signed Republic Act 11363 creating PhilSA.
The PhilSA, chaired by a director general, is an attached agency of the Office of the President tasked to be the central government agency that will plan, develop and promote the National Space Program in line with the Philippine Space Policy, which is the country’s primary strategic road map for space development.
