GPSIA Applauds Senate Passage of GPS Resolution

WASHINGTON- The GPS Innovation Alliance (GPSIA) issued the statement following the passage of S.Res.216, a resolution recognizing the economic importance of GPS, the contributions made by the men and women of the Air Force who are responsible for operating and maintaining the GPS constellation as well as the Department of Transportation’s role in coordinating interactions with the civil GPS user community.

“GPSIA commends and congratulates GPS Caucus co-chairs, Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and Joni Ernst (R-IA) for their bipartisan leadership in advancing S.Res.216, which brings heightened awareness to the wide-ranging economic and societal benefits of GPS,” said GPS Innovation Alliance Executive Director J. David Grossman. “Promoting and protecting the availability, accuracy, efficiency, robustness, reliability and resiliency of the GPS constellation enables technological innovation, adding more than $68 billion annually to the U.S. economy."

"With the growth of precision agriculture, autonomous vehicles, 5G and other emerging technologies, our dependence on GPS will only continue to grow, making this resolution more timely than ever. We also extend our thanks and appreciation to Senators Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Maggie Hassan (D-NH) for cosponsoring the resolution as well as Representatives Dave Loebsack (D-IA) and Don Bacon (R-NE) for introducing a similar resolution, H.Res.219, in the House and we look forward to working with other Congressional leaders on this important issue.”
