Boeing says large constellations cannot meet U.S. regulator’s satellite-launch deadline

PARIS — The global launch-service market is incapable of placing even half of a large constellation of satellites into orbit within six years of the network’s receipt of a license, which is the requirement recently proposed by U.S. regulators, Boeing said.

Boeing proposes that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) relax its rules to allow constellations of more than 1,000 satellites to place their networks into orbit over 12 years: 34% within six years of its license, 33% three years later and the final third three years after that.
