Cyber Monday Deal: Launch A Satellite For $200,000

This article is more than 8 years old.

Looking for a unique deal for Cyber Monday? Spaceflight, a company that helps its customers broker satellite launches, is offering the opportunity to launch a 3U sized cubesat for only $200,000, starting on Cyber Monday and ending on Dec. 31 (or until they sell out.)

"This time of year we typically reflect on what we’re grateful for, and at Spaceflight, we’re grateful for you – our friends, family, customers and fellow space enthusiasts," the company wrote in a blog post. We’re thankful for all of the people that have connected with us, believed in us, launched with us, and generally supported us in our mission to deliver a new model for accessing space over the years. To express our appreciation, we want to give something back, to you, our community of small satellite space friends."

For those interested in the offer, the cubesats will be launched on the company's dedicated launch, currently set for 2018. The launch provider has yet to be named. According to the company's website, the normal price for a 3U cubesat launch would be $295,000 - making this deal a pretty steep discount.

A 3U cubesat, for those who don't know, is a satellite that's 4" x 4" and 12" in length. That doesn't sound too big, but there have been a number of interesting satellite projects launched in the past years at that size. They include the Planetary Society's prototype solar sail satellite, the Dove satellites in Planet Lab's Flock-1 constellation, and many others.

More details about the offer can be found here.
