Today's astronauts may set a few social-media-in-space records — like the first-ever space Vine — but Buzz Aldrin snapped the first space selfie decades before it had a name. Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, tweeted about the self-portrait he snapped in November 1966 during the Gemini 12 flight.
Aldrin had posted about the space selfie on other social networks in April, but his tweet came during the 45th anniversary of Apollo 45's historic moon landing. Aldrin's status as the first space selfie-taker, though, depends on the strictness of one's definition: A few months earlier, during the Gemini 10 flight in July 1966, Aldrin's Apollo 11 crewmate Michael Collins snapped a selfie inside the capsule.
