PSLV launch of Cartosat-2A (ISRO) An Indian PSLV rocket launched a remote sensing satellite and nine smaller spacecraft early Monday. The "core alone" PSLV, which has no strap-on boosters, lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at 11:54 pm EDT Sunday (0353 GMT Monday) and placed its payload of ten satellites into a sun-synchronous orbit at an altitude of 637 km. The primary payload on the PSLV is Cartosat-2A, a high-resolution remote sensing satelllite capable of taking images with a resolution of one meter. The PSLV also carried an Indian-built microsatellite, IMS-1, an 83-kg satellite that features multispectral and hyperspectral cameras. In addition, the PSLV launched eight nanosatellites built by universities and organizations in Canada, Europe, and Japan. The launch was the second of the year for the PSLV.
